The Junior/Senior Prom will be held this year at the Hotel Captain Cook on Saturday, April 19th. Tickets are now on sale. Don’t wait until the last minute or you might not get a ticket! They are $40 each, or $75 for a couple.
Senior Fun Day is coming up May 2nd. Seniors!!! Permission slips will be available today outside of Mrs. Habberstad’s room in F-109 and Student Government will also hand them out during class coverage this week. A permission slip is required regardless of age. Turn them in quickly….you don’t want to miss this excellent tradition!
The application for 2014-15 Gifted Mentor ship Program is now available on the ASD website! The application deadline for first semester mentor ships is April 25, 2014. Space is limited, so apply early!
Students: Alaska Construction Career Day is taking place at the Alaska State Fair Grounds in Palmer on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. The first 35 students to sign up in the CURRICULUM office AND return a signed permission form will be able to participate in the Career Day. Priority will go to Juniors and Seniors. This is a fabulous opportunity for you to see what training and apprenticeship programs and jobs are available within the Construction Career field here in Alaska. There are many community individuals and firms who have donated valuable time and resources to bring this event together for over 1000 students from Anchorage, Matsu, and the Kenai Peninsula.
If you are interested in being a part of the South Choir next year, auditions will be held today from 2:00 – 4:00 pm in the choir room. See Mrs. Nelson in C202 for more information.
The practice session for the FULL LPF test out will be Thursday, April 17th at 10:30 a.m. in room G 214. If you are planning on taking the test, please see your counselor to sign up.
Sophomores and Juniors: The Rotary’s RYLA (Rotary Youth Learning Academy) program is offering a leadership academy on April 17 for any 10th and 11th grade students interested in spending a weekend in Wasilla chaperoned by adults to learn leadership skills to carry on into adulthood.

Prom guest passes are available in the main office. Guest passes are for individuals who are 20 years of age and under. All non-ASD guests are required to meet with Mr. McGinley, prior to approval.
LATE EXAMS: Any student missing final exams on May 21 or May 22 needs to fill out the form in the Curriculum Office. Final CANNOT BE GIVEN EARLY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Students must schedule with the Curriculum Office to take their exams upon their return. The exam grade will be entered in the semester grade as a zero and a grade change submitted by the teacher when the late exam has been graded.
FINAL TRANSCRIPT FORMS: Final Transcript forms are now available in the Curriculum Office. These are transcripts with second semester grades posted on them and will be available beginning May 30th. All soon to be graduates need to fill out the final transcript form to have their transcript sent to the college they will be attending. All colleges require a final transcript before they will allow college students to register for second semester classes. Plan ahead and put in your request now. All requests must have a complete address for the college you will be attending. Any additional requested transcripts will need to be picked up in the Curriculum Office after May 30th. Students may also do the online transcript request on the ASD or South website and be sure to mark “End of Semester” instead of “now”.
Summer School Registration is now available! Registration is a TWO-STEP process! 1) Bring your application to your counselor. AFTER meeting your counselor, 2) make payment online or in person with Mrs. Thornton in the front office. You cannot make payment before meeting with your counselor.
There are two options for summer classes, the first being credit recovery through APEX here at South, Wed 5/28 through Fri 6/6. There will be two sessions, AM and PM. APEX credit recovery forms can be picked up at the curriculum office or from your counselor. APEX is only for students who have earned an “F” in a course, and not all courses are available (courses being offered are on the back of the APEX form). If space allows, students who have earned a “D” may be able to raise their grade through APEX. Counselors will keep a waitlist of these students and there is no guarantee space will be available.
The second summer school option is iSchool online, which is only for first-time course attempts. This program runs from June 9 through July 18. ISchool applications are posted online at http://www.asdk12.org/schools/asdischool/pages/. You must fill out the application online, then print it and bring it to your counselor.
Each summer school course–APEX and iSchool–is $100, and you can take up to two courses through each program. You MUST fill out the appropriate application FIRST and bring it to your counselor before making payment.
