2014/15 REGISTRATION CAN BE DONE ONLINE JULY 7 – AUGUST 8
Is your child an incoming 9th grader or returning to South High School next school year? If so, you can register him/her online from the comfort of your home July 7 through August 8. The district is implementing an online registration system through Zangle Parent Connection for all returning students starting with the 2014/15 school year The Online Registration window will be open July 7 – August 8 and give parents the option to register incoming 9th and returning students online, eliminating the need to register in person!
If you have not used Parent Connect call the South High Curriculum Office at 742-6257 before May 23 to get your Parent Connect Password. Please keep this in a safe place so it will enable you to re-register your student from the comfort of your home. Parent Connect enables parents to view daily and weekly assignments for each class, test scores, transcripts, attendance and enrollment information on a continuous basis. Parents will also be able to view their student’s schedule for the 2014/15 school year when it becomes available. If you have difficulty accessing Parent Connect during the registration period please call South’s Curriculum Office at 742-6259 for assistance. Parking Permits and Fines will still need to be taken care of in person at South High.

SUMMER SCHOOL INFORMATION
Summer School Registration is now available! Registration is a TWO-STEP process! 1) Bring your application to your counselor. AFTER meeting your counselor, 2) make payment online or in person with Mrs. Thornton in the front office. You cannot make payment before meeting with your counselor.
There are two options for summer classes, the first being credit recovery through APEX here at South, Wed 5/28 through Fri 6/6. There will be two sessions, AM and PM. APEX credit recovery forms can be picked up at the curriculum office or from your counselor. APEX is only for students who have earned an “F” in a course, and not all courses are available (courses being offered are on the back of the APEX form). If space allows, students who have earned a “D” may be able to raise their grade through APEX. Counselors will keep a waitlist of these students and there is no guarantee space will be available.
The second summer school option is iSchool online, which is only for first-time course attempts. This program runs from June 9 through July 18. ISchool applications are posted online at http://www.asdk12.org/schools/asdischool/pages/. You must fill out the application online, then print it and bring it to your counselor.
Each summer school course–APEX and iSchool–is $100, and you can take up to two courses through each program. You MUST fill out the appropriate application FIRST and bring it to your counselor before making payment.
All classes are first come, first served and space is limited.
SAHS PEER MENTOR INFORMATION
This past month of March has been extremely busy for the South High Peer Mentors. All of our mentors have finally come back from Spring Break, and now we’re jumping into new projects. Applications have been submitted for next year’s class, and new mentors have been selected. As sad as it is to see our seniors leave Peer Mentorship, we are ready to welcome our new members with open arms.
On the first day of this school year, mentors made signs to welcome freshmen and stood outside of every door, we hosted a lunch time assembly, and we made ourselves visble in the hallways for help. We have begun planning for the first day next year already! We’d like to make it better than ever!
Currently, we have a collaboration with West High School’s Peer Mentorship class to trade stories, share advice, and better our work with freshman as a whole. Thanks to our PTSO, South High and West High schools are flying the Team Ignition trainer to Alaska to learn more about the program and how to incorporate it in to our schools.
Lastly, we’d like to thank our newest sponsors for making our projects possible!

For thousands of years, the Mediterranean Sea has played a key role in the development of European culture.
See the remains of civilizations that relied on it, from Ancient Rome to Renaissance Florence. When you cross the sea to Spain, you follow the journey of countless sailors through the ages. In Barcelona, that old history gives way to Gaudí’s eye-opening modern architecture.
