Dear SAHS Community,
Welcome back to the 12th year of school here at South Anchorage High School! I hope you have had a chance to enjoy the summer thus far with family and friends. The classes of 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 have an great year in front of them, full of excellence in all areas—academics, activities and character. I am excited to officially welcome you back in person on the first day of school, August 19th.
The Anchorage School District is happy to provide on-line registration this year. Online registration is open from July 22nd through August 7th. Parents of returning students now have the opportunity to complete the annual enrolment forms online through Zangle Parent Connect. If you need your Zangle pin and password to log in, please contact our curriculum office at 742-6257. We are still hosting face-to-face registration from August 3rd-6th. Families who have completed online registration will be able to bypass the forms station and make it through the rest of our registration much quicker. All students will need to take pictures, pick up schedules, get locker assignments, purchase parking permits and get student ID’s in person during our face-to-face registration. More information about registration is available at the Anchorage School District website at www.asdk12.org.
I am excited to welcome two new Assistant Principals to SAHS. Tim Helvey is our new Curriculum Assistant Principal. Tim comes to us with a lot of experience both in the teaching and the administrative ranks. I am extremely excited to add him to our staff. Francine Jackson is our new Staff and Student Services Assistant Principal. Francine also comes to us with a vast career in education both at the classroom and administrative level. Both of these additions to our administrative staff at SAHS will be great ones and I am looking forward to you meeting them at registration.
Activities sign-ups for fall sports are most likely underway or close to beginning as you are reading this newsletter. The Activities Office will be open beginning on Friday, July 20th from 8-11 am and 12-2 pm. You will need to have a current physical, participation form, and be academically eligible to participate.
I am excited to announce that construction is underway on our turf field to add bleachers, sound system and score board. This construction project has been many years in the making and is finally underway! If you have a chance to stop by our fields be sure to check it out. We will be hosting a large Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Homecoming day, September 19th. More details will be coming in the future but mark your calendars now—you won’t want to miss it!
As we look at the first days of school, please keep in mind there is a significant amount of congestion on Elmore Road during the morning hours. We encourage you to allow extra time the first few weeks of school if you are planning to drive yourself or your student to school. Security is located in the school parking lot drop off area; I appreciate you following their direction at all times. Thank you for your patience in advance.

I’d like to close by welcoming you to South Anchorage High School if you are a new student or parent; and welcoming you back to South if you are a returning students or parent. I am looking forward to seeing you all on the first day of school!
