The Alaska Native Heritage Center’s After School High School Program will be coming Tuesday the 28th during lunch to promote our program. We have three classes students can attend: Native games, Alaska native Dancing, and traditional art. This is a great program where students have the ability to earn elective credits.
ATLAS (Alaska Teen Leadership Summit) is now accepting applications for this week-long summer residence program on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. Previously known as the Summer Leadership Institute, ATLAS is designed to develop leadership skills for students finishing 9-12 grade, while earning two college credits. Students learn essential components of leadership, including communication, integrity, ethics, social responsibility, and how to create a project plan. In addition, the program focuses on interpersonal skills, goal setting, and decision-making. The total cost for this program is $450, which includes tuition for two academic credits, fees, room, meals, and program materials. Some scholarships are available on the basis of demonstrated financial need. The application deadline is April 10th. If you are bringing a guest to the Sadie Hawkins dance who is not a south student, you must apply for a guest pass. Dance Guest Pass Applications are available at the activities office. South students are allowed one high school aged guest. The Dance Guest Application must be submitted by Wednesday, January 29. No guest will be admitted to the dance without a guest pass. Please stop by the activities office for the application and details about the process.
Registration for KCC’s 3rd Session is open. Choose 3 11-day classes from the list and earn a semester’s worth (.5) elective credit in just six weeks. Classes begin Monday, Jan. 27, Monday – Thursday, 3:00 – 5:10 p.m., and enrollment is limited. See your school counselor today to sign up.
After school elective classes are now being offered. If you are interested in Career Options, Computer Applications, or Medical Terminology see your counselor today to sign up. If enough students do not sign up the classes will not be offered.
The SAHS Jazz Band is having a dance, dessert, and silent auction for parents and other adults Saturday evening, January 25th, from 7pm-9pm in the Auditeria. The group will play on stage while you enjoy dancing, eating, bidding on items, or simply listening to a variety of music from a comfortable table setting. This is a big fundraiser for the group helping to purchase music, supplies, and travel. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased from a jazz band student or by emailing me at school. The Launch! is a weekend orientation for SCA’s summer conservation crews. We are looking for youth that want to work on a conservation team, camp outdoors, learn leadership skills and make a difference this summer. The Launch! is a chance for you to learn more about SCA and your opportunities this summer on a conservation crew. We have positions from Denali National Park to the Chugach National Forest on the Kenai. Applicants that are selected for summer crews will earn a living stipend and build their possibilities for their future!
