South Anchorage High School Theatre:
The hills come alive as South High Theatre presents the most beloved musical of all time, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, opening this Valentines Day. Considered one of the masterpieces of modern musical theatre the production features such well known songs as “How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria”, “16 Going On 17”, “Edelweiss” and “Climb Every Mountain.”
Shows are Feb 14 & 15 and 19-22 at 7pm in the South Auditeria. Tickets are $8-12 and can be purchased during lunch starting Wednesday in the commons. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
2014 AP Exam Information
PAYMENT: The first step is to pay for your exam(s). The payment window will be open from
Monday, February 10th through Friday, March 21st at 11a.m.
- Pay online with credit/debit card through Zangle Parent Connect
- Pay at South with cash/check (made out to “SAHS”) to Mrs. Thornton in the front office.
REGISTER: The second step is to register for the specific exam(s) you plan to take.
- Print your receipt if you pay online or get a receipt from Mrs. Thornton and BRING it to Mrs. Traeger in the curriculum office to register for your specific exam(s).
- Mrs. Traeger will have a form for you to select the specific test(s) you will be taking.
How much does each test cost?
Tests are $89.00 each. There is no discount for ordering multiple tests, and you should pay for all of your exams at the same time.
What is the final deadline for ordering tests?
Registration for AP Exams ends at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 21st. No exceptions.
Senior Fun Day:
Senior FUN Day is coming on up May 2nd, 2014!
Parents, if you have a business which might like to donate items for our class goody bags, if you are interested in donating your time to help with the breakfast (at South) or with the event (at the AT&T Center on O’Malley), or if you’d like to donate food items for either of the big meals (breakfast or lunch), please contact Event Adviser Amy Habberstad at email@example.com

National Honor Society:
National Honor Society candidates, please remember to return your candidate packets to Mrs. Dietrich in H211 by the Feb. 21st deadline. All sophomores who have maintained a 3.5 GPA for the past three semesters should have already received a candidate letter. Juniors who are interested in being considered for National Honor Society must submit a transcript demonstrating three consecutive semesters above a 3.5 GPA and a candidate packet by Feb. 21st. Candidate packets may be picked up in H211 at lunch or after school.
South Anchorage High School DDF (Drama, Debate & Forensics):
The State of Alaska DDF Tournament will be held at East High School starting Thursday, 13 February. It will last for three days. There are 23 schools from across the state that will be competing for top honors. Our South State team will be competing in all formats of debate, several drama events and speech events. Those who take top honors can qualify for national competition in the Grand National Tournament sponsored by the National Catholic Forensics League in May at Chicago and the National Forensics League National Tournament being held in June at Overland Park, Kansas. The events are open to the public and supporters are welcome to contact DDF about the times of the events.
Youth Art Month Show:
“Creative Tide” is the theme of the 42nd Annual Anchorage School District student art exhibition at the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center. An affirmation to the museum’s current “Gyre” exhibit, teachers will showcase a theme wall related to marine/costal topics. The exhibition is presented in conjunction with National Youth Art Month, an acknowledgement of the visual arts programs in American schools.
The community is cordially invited to attend the Opening Reception, February 28 from 6-8pm. In addition to the exhibit, ASD students will provide live music. During the reception, admission to the museum is complimentary.
